FAQs

Private Charter Basics

  • Numerous variables go into the cost of a charter. The price of the same type of plane going the same route can vary significantly from operator to operator — and even with the same operator from day to day.

ClickJetz searches the marketplace to find our clients the best-priced options to fit their needs. Our quotes are inclusive of all taxes and fees (with the exception of deicing).

To help you decide whether a private charter is within your budget, view our sample pricing.

  • Plane size is determined by the number of passengers flying as well as by trip distance. Smaller planes such as turbo props or very light jets, although perfect for a short hop of an hour or two, are unable to do longer distances without a fuel stop. But keep in mind, the bigger the plane, the more costly it is on an hourly basis.

Our Travel Portfolio Manager will help you determine the correct size plane for your trip and needs. If you have preferences in terms of size, model, year of make or other features, please inform us so we can deliver the plane to your exact specifications.

  • To get the most competitive quotes and to ensure availability, we recommend booking anywhere from 30 to 60 days before your departure date.
Last minute need? No problem! We can book flights within hours of your need to depart.

  • Payment can be made by wire, credit card or check. Each quote lists the “cash” price, the price when paid by wire or check, and a credit card price.

Regardless of the method of payment, we require a credit card to hold your flight as well as to authorize for incidentals.

Payment is due at time of booking.

Payment by check must be received a minimum of five working days prior to departure.

If your booking is made fewer than three days prior to departure and you would like to pay by wire, the wire must read as incoming in our account; otherwise a credit card must be used.

  • An FBO (Fixed Base Operator) acts as your terminal. It handles all the operational needs of the aircraft as well as its passengers. For the passenger’s purposes, it is the facility that you pass through when entering and exiting your aircraft. The name and address of the FBO handling your flight will be listed on your itinerary. If you are flying from a small airport without a designated FBO address, please proceed to the terminal or area designated on your itinerary.

  • One of the many advantages of private charter is that you only need to arrive 30 minutes prior to departure. The crew will greet you, perform a quick security check and escort you to the aircraft for a hassle-free wheels up!

  • No need to toss your water bottle before boarding your private flight! The security check for private charter flights is nothing like the commercial security screening process.

You do need a government-issued photo ID and if traveling out of the country a passport and if applicable a visa.  The flight crew will check your ID prior to boarding (and they maintain the right to inspect any luggage that is brought aboard).

If you are flying to/from a foreign country, a customs officer will meet your plane to inspect travel documents and possibly baggage. Laws and documentation requirements differ from country to country and must be adhered to, but the process for inspecting documents is much more efficient on private flights.

  • The amount of baggage that you can bring on a private charter depends on the aircraft’s baggage capacity as well as its weight limitations. Your Travel Portfolio Manager will advise you as to the baggage limitations of your individual aircraft so that you can select an appropriate sized aircraft for your needs as well as pack accordingly.

  • Rules governing transportation to your aircraft and parking differ according to airport and FBO. Many airports will let you drive on the tarmac right up to your plane and will valet park your car for you. Other airports do not have parking onsite. Your Travel Portfolio Manager will advise you on the best way to reach your private charter.

  • ClickJetz offers the entire plane for our client’s exclusive use, we do not sell individual seats on a plane.

Pricing and Payment

  • Numerous variables go into the cost of a charter. The price of the same type of plane going the same route can vary significantly from operator to operator — and even with the same operator from day to day.

  • One-way charters are on average more expensive for each “leg” when compared to a roundtrip because the operator risks not having a fare to return the plane to base or its next destination. Therefore the cost of the return or repositioning is built into the one-way price. However, if too much time elapses between the first leg and second leg of a round trip, then it is priced as two one ways.

  • Private charter flights are never less expensive than economy commercial travel. Further, the larger your group, the larger the plane you require and the larger the plane you require the more costly. If cost is your main concern, flying commercial is more economical.

  • We do not offer a jet card or membership. Our model of service is called “On-Demand Charter,” meaning you pay only when you fly. We use this model because we believe it is the most cost-effective for our customers; funds are not tied up in large deposits, empty legs can be used when available and there are no black-out dates or peak period usage charges.

If your booking is made fewer than three days prior to departure and you would like to pay by wire, the wire must read as incoming in our account otherwise a credit card must be used.

  • Flights cancelled within 24 hours of the scheduled departure are subject to a fee of 100% of the quoted price.

Flights cancelled within 48 hours of scheduled departure are subject to a fee of 50% of the quoted price, or the actual cost incurred, whichever is greater.

Flights cancelled more than 48 hours prior to scheduled departure will be charged at actual cost incurred, which may be equal to the full charge of the flight, and is dependent upon the chosen operator’s specific cancellation policy.

Operator cancellation policy will be provided prior to booking upon request.

Failure to appear and/or make contact with ClickJetz dispatch within 2 hours of scheduled departure time will be considered a forfeiture of the flight. ClickJetz does their best to accommodate schedule changes but must work within the parameters of the operator schedule (additional charges may apply).

Flying with Pets

  • Yes, many of our customers travel with their furry family. Please see Flying with Pets for more details.

  • Depending on where you are traveling you may require specific documentation and preparation for your pet.

  • While the rules for flying with your pet on a private flight are different than on a commercial flight, the laws governing the transport of pets are the same.

Empty Legs

  • Empty legs are one-way flights that become available when a plane needs to get from point A to point B and is not booked with a fare. The operator will offer the flight at a discount to offset the cost of delivering the plane to its required location.

  • Empty legs can go to and from any possible destination. However, the reality is that the majority of empty legs depart and arrive the most traveled destinations and routes running between; New York, Los Angeles, Miami, London.

The difficulty in making use of empty legs is that you must find a plane going your exact or approximate route on your specific date of travel. With the high number of arrival and destination possibilities worldwide, finding your route on your days of travel requires a bit of luck. Flexibility in travel dates significantly improves your chance of finding an empty leg.

  • Empty leg flights typically become available a few days to a few weeks before the plane needs to move to its new location. Operators will attempt to sell the empty flight to their next destination at full fare. However, when they get to a few weeks or days before the empty flight and it remains unsold, the operator will then offer it at a discount. There are occasions, though infrequent, when the operator will offer the empty leg months in advance but as a rule empty legs flights are offered on a last-minute basis.

  • Discounts on empty legs vary but usually range from 10-70% off the full fare price. While people presume that an operator would rather make $500 or $1,000 rather than no money at all from an empty leg flight, this is in fact not the case.

Flying a private charter empty leg is, in all cases, considerably more expensive than going commercial economy class.

Empty leg flights often don’t turn out to be an especially good bargain because they tend to be available for the largest and most costly planes. Since these jets are more plane than most people require, we can actually often find a lower-priced full fare for the appropriate size plane.

  • ClickJetz’s mission is to provide its clients the most cost-effective private charter flight options for their itinerary. Whenever we receive a charter request our first-line protocol is to check for empty legs. If we can find you a better-priced option on a full fare flight we will present you that as well.

If you are looking to take advantage of an empty leg flight, flexibility is crucial. The more flexible your date and destination the better the chance you can find an empty leg for your trip.

  • ClickJetz only offers the entire plane for our client’s exclusive use. We do not sell seats on a plane.

Most private charters include at minimum beverages, alcoholic and soft, as well as light snacks such as chips, pretzels, nuts, protein bars and candy. When traveling within the Middle East alcohol may not be available. Upon request we will inform you of the details of your private charter’s complimentary catering. If you have specific catering needs, it can be arranged upon request. Please see catering for more details.

  • Yes.

  • Turboprops and very light jets do not always have a full lavatory, although certain models do. Light jets and larger come with a full lavatory standard. Your Travel Portfolio Manager will inform you of the type of bathroom there will be on your flight.

Safety

  • All ClickJetz charter operators meet FAR Part 135 compliance for private charter flights and/or Part 121/380 for group charter flights. If additional security certifications such as ARG/US, WYVERN or IS-BAO are requested or desired, ClickJetz can provide you only aircraft that meet these standards.

  • ARG/US stands for Aviation Research Group/US and is company that provides third-party charter operator safety auditing. ARG/US has four rating tiers for operators: Does Not Qualify, Gold, Gold Plus and Platinum. The main components of the ARGUS Ratings include: historical safety analysis, aircraft validation, pilot background checks, and onsite safety audits (for Platinum and Gold Plus operator ratings).

  • WYVERN is a company that provides third-party charter operator safety auditing. Charter operators with a Wyvern Registered rating maintain fleet, crew, and insurance information as well as verified regulatory documentation within the Wyvern system. Charter operators with a Wyvern Wingman rating have successfully passed the Wyvern Wingman audit which reviews safety and operational best practice standards.

  • The International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO) was developed by the International Business Aviation Council (IBAC) and is a recommended code of best practices designed to help flight departments worldwide achieve high levels of safety and professionalism. Both the FAA and CAA in Canada recognize IS-BAO as meeting the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standard. The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) also recognizes IS-BAO as an industry standard for business aircraft operations.
