“Keep Calm and Carry On” comes from a motivational poster produced by the British government in 1939 to boost morale in anticipation of World War II. The poster received little promotion at the time it was released and was not well-known until a copy was rediscovered in 2000 and has since then has become a fixture in popular culture.
Seventy years later this snippet of British stoicism continues to serve us well. As we carry on in this new reality of social distancing and quarantine, we want to share how it has affected the air charter market and what that means to you.
The first two weeks of March saw a huge surge in demand as people rushed to reposition home or to safe shelter. In addition to an increase in the usual group of private flyers, the marketplace was flooded with commercial flyers using private aviation as a safer alternative to commercial air travel.
The peak of individuals repositioning has since slowed and existing travel plans canceled as people comply with social distancing and quarantine recommendations. With the ongoing uncertainty as to how long the need to quarantine will last, along with economic uncertainty, little future travel is being planned at this time.
The market is currently being dominated by short-term demand with the median time between booking and departure being 3 days.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU?
During the spike of early March availability was limited and a number of operators were setting prices at a premium. While some operators continue to inflate prices as though demand was similar to the peak of early March, others recognize the declining trend and, eager to fly, are providing extremely competitive pricing. If you need to fly, expect a number of well-priced options for your trip as well as the ability to book your flight on a last-minute basis.
ClickJetz recognizes that for the first time flying private has become more of a necessity than a luxury. We are dedicated to helping flyers safely and affordably reach their destinations and stand by to answer any questions to new or existing private charter flyers.
